Towns & Villages on the Isle of Wight

This seaside village is definitely worth a visit since it's an easy walk from Seaview. Even older than Seaview, Bembridge became famous as the home for many of Nelson's retired fleet commanders after Trafalgar. You can take fishing trips from here, buy fresh lobsters and crabs and watch the marine industry at work servicing some of the smartest powerboats on the South Coast.

This popular seaside resort is only three miles away by car, and features a variety of unique shops, restaurants, cafes and bars. You can easily walk from Seaview to Ryde along the sea front, which boasts miles of golden sandy beaches, or hop on one of the regular buses. If visiting towards the end of August, be sure to catch the oldest carnival in the UK, when floats from all over the Island come together to create one of the biggest, brightest spectacles of the year.

West Cowes can be reached across the river Medina by one of the oldest chain ferries still in existence. The shops, bars and cafes through the mazy streets make this a 'must see', even more so during the bustle and excitement of the world's biggest and oldest regatta in early August.

The Old Village at Godshill

Freshwater Bay

On the west coast is the seaside village of Yarmouth, home to the annual Old Gaffers Festival. There's a charming harbour that boasts a ferry service direct to the mainland. A short, picturesque walk will bring you to Freshwater with it's famous Bay, and the arguably the Island's most famous landmark, The Needles.

The main town on the island and its main shopping centre, it will take you around 25 minutes to drive or take a leisurely bus.

This Southern town was a Victorian favourite with its warm microclimate giving rise to the wonderful Botanical Gardens which still thrive today. It has recently become fashionable once more with the opening of fine hotels and restaurants, and the attention of high profile visitors.

Sandown & Shanklin

Linked by a long stretch of sandy beach, these are the Island's most popular resorts for families looking for a more traditional seaside holiday.
